AI comment — why bearish

Michael Saylor's strong opposition to Bitcoin's BIP-110 proposal signals a potential divergence in opinion within the cryptocurrency community, which could influence market sentiment. If the proposal gains traction despite his objections, it might introduce uncertainty regarding the future direction of Bitcoin's development and governance, potentially impacting investor confidence. This internal debate could be viewed through a lens of broader technological evolution and the inherent risks associated with decentralized systems. Such disagreements, even on technical upgrades, can contribute to a more cautious risk appetite among investors, particularly those focused on the long-term stability and perceived security of digital assets. The market will likely observe how this debate unfolds and whether it translates into tangible shifts in capital flows or trading strategies.

Harmony token plunges 40% after unauthorized mint

An attacker was able to exploit the Harmony blockchain to mint 4 billion of the network's $ONE token. The massive increase in token supply caused the token price to plunge 40%.Harmony paused its token bridge and asked exchanges to freeze tokens coming from four addresses connected to the attacker. They also said they were considering a possible rollback — that is, reverting the blockchain to a pre-attack state, undoing all transactions since that point. This is a very controversial choice in the crypto world, where blockchains are prized for their immutability. It also becomes less effective if attackers are able to move tokens off the network before the rollback happens. This is the second time Harmony has had mint-related issues. In January 2024, a bug caused around 150 million $ONE to erroneously be minted and distributed to 79 wallets. And in June 2022, Harmony suffered a $100 million theft, later attributed by the US FBI to North Korean hacking groups. "Harmony's ONE dives 40% after an attack appears to mint tokens equal to quarter of supply" , CoinDesk

Poolin bitcoin mining pool operator files for bankruptcy

Rewritten: Poolin Bitcoin mining firm files for bankruptcy

Poolin's bankruptcy filing reflects intensifying pressures across the Bitcoin mining sector, driven by sustained high operational expenses and significant price volatility eroding profit margins. This event highlights systemic vulnerabilities in mining infrastructure sustainability, potentially accelerating sector-wide deleveraging as operators confront margin calls and reduced liquidity. The collapse of a prominent pool operator compounds concerns about crypto's operational resilience, particularly amid elevated interest rates that increase capital costs and constrain funding access for specialized infrastructure. Market sentiment may weaken further as this incident reinforces broader narratives of structural challenges within crypto, extending beyond simple price fluctuations to impact capital allocation patterns for leveraged ventures. The situation underscores how macroeconomic headwinds, including tighter financial conditions, are increasingly testing the viability of capital-intensive crypto operations. (158 words)
